The Love Poems
of Honniker Winkley

Saturday Night at the Fairmont

Chubby men, otherwise crazed
Hover over stew of oysters
Spoon and chew
Spoon and chew
Viscous juice in churlish jowls;

In flashing sunset dinner soup
So smooth and white
So smoothly white
Oysters doze with sluggish ease
Of bankers and slattern cats.

Here limbs of lax amphibian
Slippery muscles taut as appleskin
Float and wait
Float and wait
Till lapping tongues connect:

Then
Bite spat back
To release a fly
(within the fly
frog fragments)
And it lies
Beside the fork

Black
Winged
Veined
Hairy and dead.

Now frog soup cold:
Chaos never vanquished

On to Outing
